Shirley (Poe) Johnson

Shirley Ellen Johnson, age 68, of Kendallville, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2023 at Parkview Noble Hospital in Kendallville. Mrs. Johnson was born in Warsaw, Indiana on February 8, 1955 to the late Estele Dodd Poe and Mary Ellen (Eiler) Swihart. She married Delbert LeRoy Johnson, Sr. on February 23, 1971 in Ligonier, Indiana. He preceded her in death May 19, 2014. Shirley was a devoted housewife, mother, and homemaker. She also worked at Sacred Heart Home in Avilla for 18 years.

Survivors include:
Daughter, Betty Jean Hall of Kendallville.
Grandchildren: Heather Jeffers and Adil El Azaoui of Warsaw; Stone Hall and his wife, Kassandra Uriyo-Hall of Kendallville; Bradley Weimer of Waterloo; Daniel Dodson of Kendallville; and Nicholas Johnson of Kendallville. 
Great grandchildren: Abigail Hale, Opal Hall, and Harlow Hall. 
Sister, Omah May and Ravin Hicks of Ligonier. 
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Delbert; two daughters, Maryann Johnson and Peggy Chambers; son, Delbert LeRoy Johnson, Jr.; grandson, Jerremmy Hall; sister, Emma Lucille Marshall; and a brother, Johnny James Poe. 

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 8, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Hite Funeral Home with visitation from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM prior to the service. Pastor Shawn Bradley will officiate the funeral service. Burial will follow at Sparta Cemetery, Cromwell.
