Sylvia Terry, age 87, of Lake of the Woods, passed away on December 3, 2025, at Lutheran Life Villages in Kendallville. Mrs. Terry was born in Hindman, Kentucky, on November 3, 1938, to the late Ellis and Cora (Terry) Ritchie. She married Dallas Ray Terry on March 3, 1956, in Hindman, Kentucky and he preceded her in death on October 5, 2008. Sylvia was a devoted wife, and loving mother and homemaker. She was a member of Independent Baptist Church in Helmer. She worked in area factories over the years, and she spent more than 15 years waitressing at Elmira Turkey Lake Tavern. Her grandkids often stayed with her, and she loved spending time with her family. Her family and her church were the most important things to Sylvia. She also loved camping at Atwood Lake and playing cards.
Survivors include:
Daughter, Debra and Doug Borden of Churubusco.
Daughter, Diane and Glen Nagel of South Milford.
Daughter, Theresa and Don Harper of Lake of the Woods, Hudson.
Son, Doug and Lisa Terry of Stroh.
Ten grandchildren: Bradley (Junko) Borden of Plainfield, Illinois; Jill (Michael) Carlson of Spring Lake, Michigan; Monica Nagel of Goshen; Heather (Ronald) London of Walnut Cove, North Carolina; Michael Harper of Lake of the Woods; Tyler (Marissa) Terry of Hudson; Taylor Terry of Big Long Lake, Wolcottville; Tianna (Dustin) Cross of St. Joe, Indiana; Tressa Terry of Moberly, Missouri; and Trevyn Terry of Stroh.
Twelve great grandchildren: Kylee Borden, Ewan Borden, Olivia Carlson, Ella Carlson, Braxton Elliott, Kambria Elliott, Cora Clinton, Sylas London, Sylvia Carlson, Tacoma Terry, Sadie Cross, and Avonn Kelley.
Five great-great grandchildren.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, Ellis and Cora Ritchie; her husband, Dallas Ray Terry; six sisters, Gladys Franklin, Mercedes Dobson, Mabel Napier, Clydia Schellenberg, Edith Powell, and Stella Baxter; and two brothers, Golden Ritchie and Canada Ritchie.
Visitation will be held Monday, December 8, 2025, from 3:00 - 7:00 PM at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Hite Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Davis officiating.
Burial will take place at Lake Bethel Cemetery in LaGrange County.
Casket bearers will Doug Terry, Glen Nagel, Doug Borden, Don Harper, Brad Borden, and Tyler Terry.
Memorial donations may be made to Stroh Volunteer Fire Department or Helmer Independent Baptist Church.
