Catherine Mae Childers, age 89, died Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at her residence in Avilla.  Mrs. Childers was born March 17, 1928 near Garrett, Kentucky in Knott County to the late Patton and Amy (Gayheart) Cox.  She married Edsel Childers on March 20, 1948 in Kentucky and was a wife, mother, and homemaker. 

Survivors include:
Husband of 69 years, Edsel Childers of Avilla.
Son, Robert and Kathy Childers of Leo.
Five grandchildren: Kendra Anderson of Ann Arbor, Michigan; Jodi and Dave Helmer of Waterloo; Jamey and Jeremy Walker of Kendallville; Brian and Janel Childers of Avilla; and Samantha and Jeremy Lynch of Springdale, Arkansas.
Eleven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. 
Sister, Ann and Monte Conley of Kendallville.
Sister, Gwen and Larry Pant of Kendallville.
Brother, Melvin and Marge Cox of Huntington.
Sister, Elizabeth Girolami of Florida.
She was preceded in death by her son, Bill Childers who died November 8, 2006; brothers, Charlie Cox, Carl Cox, George Cox, and William Cox; sisters, Fern Goen Gillenwater, Amel Coburn, Ellen Montel Miller.   

Visitation will be held Friday, April 21, 2017 from 3:00 – 6:00 PM at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville and also one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Hite Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Mosley officiating. 
Burial will take place at Rehoboth Cemetery near Albion.
Pallbearers will be her great grandchildren, Corey Kiser, Lukus Childers, Noah Childers, Nate Anderson, and Charlie Anderson.
