MARIE E. SCHWARTZ, age 96, of Kendallville, died on Sunday, September 20, 2015 at Lutheran Life Villages in Kendallville.  Mrs. Schwartz was born in Albion, Indiana on July 1, 1919 to the late Arlo and Orpha (Smith) Herron.  She graduated from Kendallville High School in 1928.  She worked at Kraft Foods in Kendallville early on and married her first husband, Wendell M. Ihrie on December 30, 1951.  He preceded her in death on September 27, 1956.  She was married to her second husband, Elmer K. "Slim" Schwartz, on October 31, 1958, and he also preceded her in death on September 25, 1977.  Marie was the owner and president of Kendallville Concrete from 1950-1986 and the only woman in the United States to own and operate a concrete plant during her tenure.  She was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Kendallville and past member of the Sigma Beta sorority.  Marie loved dancing, crotcheting, knitting, and making crafts.  She also loved watching the cardinals and birds in her yard.  After she retired, she enjoyed spending winters in Fort Myers, Florida.

Survivors include: 
Daughter, Susan and David Hablitzel of Fort Wayne.
Step daughter, Pamella Hudson of Fort Wayne.
Step daughter, Carolyn Taylor of Kendallville.
Step son, Kent and Ruthie Ihrie of Witmer Lake near Wolcottville.
Many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by step daughter, Diane Peachy; sisters, Retha Smith and Betty Rice; and brother, Rev. Everett Herron.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 23, 2015 from 4:00-7:00pm at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville.

Funeral services will be Thursday, September 24, 2015 at 11:00am at Hite Funeral Home.

Officiating the funeral service will be Pastor Duane Herron and James "Clyde" Snellenberger.  

Burial will be at Lake View Cemetery in Kendallville.

Memorials may be made to Shriner Children's Hospital, Indianapolis.
