REBECCA ELMA WERT, age 69, of Avilla, died on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Presence Sacred Heart Home in Avilla, Indiana.  Mrs. Wert was born in Garrett, Indiana on August 22, 1946 to the late Godfrey and Leah Lavern (Harrigar) Schlotter.  She graduated from Avilla High School in 1964 and was employed with Dana Corporation in Churubusco for 30 years before retiring in 1998.  She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Avilla.  Becky loved tending to her flower gardens and she loved animals of all kinds.  She enjoyed listening to music, especially Queen, Janis Joplin and Neil Diamond.  Becky was an avid reader and she loved cooking.  Loved by everyone, she was a “mother hen” and caregiver to many. 

Survivors include: 
Daughter, Andrea Wert and Autumn Sprong of Marion.
Son, Ian and Sherry Wert and Granddaughter Hannah of Marysville, Ohio.
Daughter, Romona and Phillip "Radar" Hay of Topeka.
Grandson, Isaah Carper and Erica Warren, and first great-grandson soon to come of Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Sister, Sharon and Chuck Laws of Avilla.
Many nieces, nephews and cousins. 

She was also preceded in death by her sister, Cheryl Miller; brothers, Robert Schlotter, Richard Schlotter and Jed Schlotter; and a nephew, Richard Schlotter, Jr.

The family would like to offer their heartfelt thanks to all of the nurses, aides and staff that took such loving care of their mother during her time at Sacred Heart. 

Visitation will be Sunday, April 17, 2016 from 2:00-5:00 pm at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville.  There will be a rosary service at 4:45 pm.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, April 18, 2016 at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Avilla with visitation one hour prior to the mass at the church. 

Officiating the funeral mass will be Fr. Daniel Chukwuleta.

Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Avilla.

Memorial donations may be made to Noble County Humane Shelter.
