Rusty Slone

June 27, 1932 ~ August 24, 2016 (age 84) 84 Years Old


GARLAND "RUSTY" SLONE, age 84, of Kendallville died on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.  Mr. Slone was born in Pine Tree holler near Mousie, Kentucky on June 27, 1932 to Andy J. and Tennessee Slone.  He married Addie B. Caudill on July 1, 1949 in Kentucky and she preceded him in death in 2006.  Rusty was employed with Starcraft for 22 years and the Kendallville Foundry for 3 years before retiring in 1993.  Rusty was a loving husband and father who loved to play games with his children and grandchildren when they were young and his love for his grandchildren continued as they grew older.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing with Anthony and Philip, Jr.  Rusty spent much of his time outdoors and he looked forward each year to planting his garden in the spring and working in it through the summer.  He never met a stranger and enjoyed all who came to visit.  Rusty was a preacher from the age of 28.  He preached at the Old Regular Baptist Church in Lisbon and the United Baptist Church in Valentine.  He attended Calvary United Baptist Church in Stroh.   

Survivors include: 
Daughter, Freda Catherine (Silas) Ritchie of Wellington, Kentucky.
Daughter, Betty Louise Slone of Kendallville.
Son, Philip Ronald (Nina) Slone, Sr. of Kendallville.
Daughter, Devonna Albaugh of Lagrange.
Eight grandchildren: Marcy (Stanley) Martin, Garlon "Buck" (Gina) Ritchie, Anthony (Cory) Slone, Marthann (James) Begley, Philip (Candy) Slone, Jr., Lisa (Brian) Crawford, Kristina Albaugh, and Heather (Michael) Bortner.
16 great grandchildren: Zachary Martin, Kathryn Martin, Austin Slone, Trevor Slone, Eric Slone, Shyanna Ritchie, Marrissa Slone, Jasmine Long, Jacqueline Begley, Marianna Ritchie, Jeri Begley, Dawson Crawford, Owen Crawford, Andrew Nelson, Ethan Bortner, and Presstyn Dallas Rowe. 
Sister, Ruby Taylor of Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by parents; his wife; six sisters, Wionia Slone, Flordia Slone, Sylvia Short, Minnie Slone, Arnette Slone, and Blanch Ritchie; one brother, Silas Slone;  great granddaughter, Paizleigh Rowe.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 25, 2016 from anytime after 3:00 PM at Mt. Calvary United Baptist Church in Stroh with a service at 6:00 PM.  
Visitation is also Friday, August 26, 2016 all day with a service at 6:00 PM. 
Funeral services will be Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Mt. Calvary United Baptist Church, Stroh.
Officiating the services will be Rev. Willie Collins, Rev. Travis Moore, Rev. Grover Caudill, Rev. Earl Greer, and Rev. Ron Bell.  
Burial will be at Sweet Cemetery near Albion.
Pallbearers will be Philip Slone, Sr., Larry Caudill, Anthony Slone, Philip Slone, Jr., Austin Slone, Trevor Slone, and Eric Slone.  Honorary bearers will be Brian Crawford and Michael Bortner.
Memorial donations may be made to the family.
