VICTORIA  MARY GRUBB, age 97, of Kendallville, died on Sunday, September 13, 2015 at her residence.  Mrs. Grubb was born in Toledo, Ohio on April 6, 1918 to the late James and Gertrude (Varno) Mulligan. Known as Kendallville’s Showgirl, Vi along with her sister, Jean, were a song and dance act called The Mary Whirl.  They traveled all of the eastern United States and joined the A.B. Marcus Show in 1936 as singers and dancers.  She met her future husband, Forrest A. "Grubby" Grubb, while on tour in the 1930s.  While on tour, they traveled together worldwide for three years. They were married June 14, 1937 in Christchurch, New Zealand. The tour ended in July of 1939, just prior to the outbreak of World War II. The Grubbs settled in Kendallville and Vi worked at the phone company as an operator before becoming mother of her two sons. Later, she went to work for Weible's Paint and Wallpaper in Kendallville for the next 29 years.  In her retirement, she loved to play golf and spend time with her family and friends as well as continuing her faith in Christian Science teachings.  She was able to live independently for the remainder of her life, thanks to the love and dedicated care of her dearest friend, Jane Tucker.
