Canzalia "Katie" (Slone) Hunter

Canzalia "Katie" Hunter, age 74, of Kendallville, passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  Mrs. Hunter was born May 14, 1942 in Leburn, Kentucky to the late Russell and Manda (Short) Slone.  She married Warren Manford Thacker in 1957 in Leburn, Kentucky and he preceded her in death in February 1973.  Katie was primarily a mother and homemaker but during the 1980’s, she did work for a nursing home in Kentucky.  She moved to this area and worked several years as a waitress at the B&S Truck Stop west of Kendallville.  

Survivors include: 
Son, Taulbee and Natalie Thacker of Kendallville.
Son, Terry and Stacey Thacker of Kendallville.
Son, Jeff Thacker of Kendallville.
Daughter, Katina Smith of Wolcottville.
Eight grandchildren: Tonya (Shane) Quinley of Kendallville; Ashley Thacker of Kendallville; Kaleb Thacker of Kendallville; Kyland Sage, Ernie "Jr." Arnold, Eithen Trowbridge, Darien Arguello, and Ariana Arguello all of Wolcottville.  One great granddaughter, Dakota Quinley.
Sister, Louise Smith of Hindman, Kentucky.
Sister, Rachel and Andrew Slone of Kendallville.
Sister, Beulah and Ted Slone of Kendallville.

Katie was also preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Thacker, who died at birth in 1959 and a niece, Sheila Slone in 1978.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Mt. Calvary United Baptist Church in Stroh.  The service will be officiated by Rev. Willie Collins.
Visitation will be Tuesday, October 25th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Mt. Calvary United Church, Stroh with an evening prayer service at 7:00 PM.
